Happy New Year! I know you've been busy with "stuff" and didn't know about this earth shattering stories. Santy Claus hid these news stories because he didn't want you to get an achy tum-tum. But here they are, one after the other. And isn't it strange these two never got a chance to be on the Today Show together. They are--in my fever dreams...
Sad news to report, Josh Elliot and NBC have reached the conclusion that Josh Elliot will not be working for the Peacock network anymore. The former star of Good Morning America signed to a high-profile contract at NBC almost two years ago. The signing didn't exactly heighten Elliot's profile, he was only a part of NBC Sports and if you're like me you haven't watched NBC Sports since Dick Enberg was still with us. During the signing, Elliot seemed really happy about being the NBC Sports guy. Josh Elliot is a tremendous liar.
We all know Elliot wanted the gig at the Today Show but it didn't turn out as planned. That show is about 15 folks deep one in co-hosts, Peter Alexander, a brother who's 7 feet tall and always speaks with his outside voice, Carson Daly, Willie Geist, etc. You know what? I even saw Harry Smith on there, he was drunk of course. You know who I didn't see? Josh Elliot, not one morning, not even a single day. Ha!
Part 2: It's no secret that Josh Elliot can reportedly be a corrosive presence in the office. He's very ambitious, selfish and he's been known to have a work fling or two. Hey? That sounds like Matt Lauer!
Josh Elliot is taking a break to spend time trolling on the internet for whores.
Who's that? Who's there? Well it's Jenna Wolfe! Jenna Wolfe was the co-host of the weekend edition of Today until they demoted her and made her read news like a newbie. Sad times. In 2014 Wolfe announced that she leaving Weekend Today to become a health-fitness guru on the week day edition of Today. Ha! In the business, that seemed like a stopgap measure, you know, "re-assign" someone, don't give them a doggone thing to do and wait until they leave in a huff. To be honest, I think I only saw Jenna Wolfe once on the Today show she was feigning enthusiasm in workout gear with jump robes at her defeated ankles.
Wolfe was also supposed to do national news reporting too. I didn't see that either. With all of that on her plate (and motherhood w/ her girlfriend Stephanie Goosk.) Wolfe put some pep in her step and left NBC all together. Oh noes! Jenna Wolfe has a website where you can read about exercise stuff.
This was Jenna Wolfe's old home. Did you hear the latest? Well what happened about a year ago? Lester Holt finally escaped after being there for a million years. On Holt's last day he was a river of tears and broke down on Dylan Dreyer's lap, cried and grabbed her behindz! Lester Holt is now the lead anchor on NBC Nightly News taking over for Lyin' Brian Williams.
And about Weekend Today. Well, the show has really improved. Erica Hill has really gotten better and the addition of the aforementioned Dylan Dreyer and the lovely Sheinelle Jones is great too.
Weekend Today ***
Part 2: I feel odd not complaining....

Well with all that being said. Weekend Today has been revamped and Erica Hill left the show. She is now at MSNBC as an anchor and reporter for NBC. Willie Geist has his own Sunday show. There was a gaping hole on the show once Lester left, the team seemed like they enjoyed enough but it is not enough to make a solid show. The ratings came out and they are in third place. Erica was just not strong enough, Craig Melvin is okay but like Erica not strong enough.
Willie Geist is on Sunday Today, they want through with it? Oh no! Ha. Yep, totally agree about the post-Lester Holt Weekend Today show, it's not enough. Craig Melvin kind of got on my nerves and the days he wasn't there, someone else even more derivative would show up.
I did begin to like Erica Hill but I agree with what you said. For me, she wasn't quite enough. If there was a team I liked the best, it would be Lester Holt and Campbell Brown.
I don't get the appeal of Willie Geist he is like a cheap knockoff and has no charisma that makes him likable. He is like a blank.
I enjoyed Lester and Campbell as well, they were solid team and I liked them better then Katie Couric and Matt Lauer. I also liked Lester and Amy, boy those were the golden days of Weekend Today. I remember when Lester, Amy and Jenna went on the wilderness survival camp, funniest and best stuff on the Today show. Looking back, I really enjoyed Lester's tenure and weekend Today knows they can't replicate that kind of magic ever again. That is why they are doing the revamping and Erica Hill knew she can't fill those big shoes which is why left and went to MSNBC.
Erica Hill was the weakest female anchor, it felt like there was something missing with her, Lester tried his best to make her connectable but people wanted more Lester and Jenna. Erica and Craig were okay together, Craig Melvin is very hyper and that can easily make him unlikable.
Lester and Shenielle would've worked I believe if they hired her back in 2012 instead of Erica Hill. The days she filled in for Erica while Lester was there, they had nice chemistry. I knew that as soon as Lester got prompted that it was only a matter of time before they do the changes to weekend today. The new team is okay but they were trying to hard to act like they like each other or make magic happen. The weather girl Dylan Dreyer is okay but lucky she is cute because as a host she is very awkward and can't modulate her voice properly. Ginger Zee at ABC beats her by miles in that department.
Agree about Willie Geist, there's little or nothing there. I always found his father annoying too, with that "aw shucks" BS. I liked Lester and Campbell too, wouldn't have minded if they became the weekday team.
I forgot about Amy Robach and Lester together, they were fun too. I like Amy, I'm glad she got more chances at ABC. I think Erica Hill's problem is that she's naturally dour and making her seen "light" was a lot of work. Agree about Dylan and Shenielle, and Craig for that matter, he's too loud and ultimately bland. It's not enough to build a show around.
Willie Geist is the epitome of "white male media privilege", what has he done in the industry to be given these top jobs so easily. I would say a good agent helps but he has no talent nor has he ever really worked and showed journalism credibility to earn the respect of viewers. Lester Holt had to work over 10,000 hours for him to even get the top job and he is more qualified, talented and has more gravitas then Geist.
Geist is not even that handsome, I don't want to go this route but it is irking to see people get these jobs easily handed to him without even proving themselves. I thought Jenna Wolfe's hire to NBC was a joke but lucky she hosted for one day.
Amy Robach is doing well at ABC, I miss her and Lester. They were good together and Amy has natural glow when she was on camera. Her and Campbell had that natural warmness. Erica Hill has no warmness, that has been her issue throughout her career. There is just a missing link with Erica Hill which is why she gets moved around to so many jobs. She is not cut out for being a television news anchor. To me she looks pathetic always trying to hang around the national news circuit cause in that business once you fail the top spot then you relegate yourself to local news or become a special contributor.
Craig Melvin is loud he seems like a nice guy, he can easily trip on himself cause he gets carried away. I can't see him ever being no leading anchor host especially for serious news. He is good for the fun light news or doing Entertainment Tonight like shows. He should audition for Access Hollywood on NBC, he has the personality for it.
Ha, totally agree about Willie Geist, he really got to a lot of places in NBC. I remember Ryan Seacrest's name came up for Today assignments and of course Josh Elliot. They both "stayed put" as Geist got all of the gigs.
Agree about Lester Holt too, he waited quite a while--and really was on the Weekend show a few years too long. I thought Jenna Wolfe was really cute at the beginning but she got wearing, NBC didn't know what to do with her. I had to laugh at the Today Show Fitness Expert lie, I knew that would hasten her NBC demise, ha.
Amy Robach's lovely, she's a dream anchor--and yep her and Lester had great chemistry. Yep,yep about Erica Hill--she's probably shuffled around too many times as it is, I don't see much going if she keeps it up. She's probably pop up on my local stations, heh.
Agree about Craig Melvin too, he just needs to go somewhere, he's not good for my migraines...
